Well the Eastern Area Team of Spridget Handymen In Transit
(EATSHIT) went to Rick Moses's to work on his newly acquired 68 Midget.
Upon arrival we detemined the engine was siezed, after a bit we figured
it also had a snapped axle (probably from the DPO trying to tow start it
with a siezed engine) But after raising the rear end off the ground,
Kevin discovers the drive shaft moves when either wheel is turned, so no
snapped axle. After some thought, we find out the clutch is locked up,
not frozen to the flywheel, stuck in the on position but the pedal is up
and the hydraulics are shot. How can this be? A 4" slave rod would
explain it. back to the engine, head off, it's NOT siezed!
Ok, I know it didn't move when I tried it so I mad a slight boo-boo.
Find a new head gasket, de-carbon it and reassemble the engine, do the
clutch hydraulics, fire it up. all is fine. Kevin did all the brakes.
Hey Kevin, how do you like those "E" clips for the rear wheel cylinders?
I see you didn't use them.
So after about 11 hours of work, Rick DROVE his 68 Midget around the
block a few times. Freshly painted doors, new brakes, new clutch and
brake hydralics, a custom machined slave cylinder rod, carb work
including float needles and a good cleaning, new head gasket,
windshield bolted down, radiator cleaned, painted, and back in, gas tank
drained, wheel bearings greased, and a seat tossed in it.
Everybody in Hershey, PA is happy.
I'm tired.
