If it was the connector on the battery post that melted, it could have just
been loose. Partial contact of the connector is the same thing as using a
smaller guage wire, which would get hot.
When I bought my Midget, it had a starting problem. The hi-amp leads on the
starter relay were all loose and the relay itself was melted. Same thing.
