Sorry to bomb the list with this, but it always seems people on this list
have alot of diverse knowledge, and maybe the answers will apply to someone
trying to recurve a LBC distributor.

One of my other projects has been building a mean street engine for my
Torino. It now has a 302 with a 347 stroker kit, 10:1 pistons, Edelbrock
RPM aluminum heads, RPM Airgap intake, Edelbrock 600 CFM carb. I bought a
HEI type distributor, which in theory is really cool, one wire hook up.
Unfortunately I cannot get an advance curve out of it that will make the
motor run well. The engine wants a ton of advance, really early. The most
idle advance I can put in and still start the car is 10 degrees, and full
centrifugal advance seems to come in all at once. No matter what springs I
put in it, it just hammers from 10 degrees to 25 degrees at 3000 RPM.
Edelbrock wants a total of 36-38 degrees, and the engine has yet to ping, no
matter where I set it. It feels like a real slug until the advance kicks
in, then it pulls very well. Any body have experience with these GM style
HEI distributors that can tell me why it wont advance smoothly? I've tried
two different sets of weights and 4 different spring combinations. I am
thinking about switching to an MSD distributor with a retard to start
feature, but the total setup (distributor/MSD box/ retard box) are pricey.
Any one used any of their stuff?
