| I'm not the K&N rep but I believe the "cloth material" is not the filter
the oil is.  A foam filter is different as the oil would block the flow
of air.  The same goes for a paper filter.

  Good question David! :^)  I guess I should have
explained further that this is on my vintage racer and
all I'm trying to do is keep out the rocks and stuff. 
K & N is the only filter large enough to cover the
velocity stacks I use.....
  Just for the sake of conversation, why don't we oil
the foam type of filters then...
