That is what K&N recommends too.  I have never heard of another product that 
could be used to replace their product.  Probably is one somewhere, but why 
worry?  Just buy the cleaning kit and do it.  And I disagree wholeheartedly 
with 
the idea that they shouldn't be cleaned, even though they WILL go much 
further dirty than standard filters.  The further grit and grime are away from 
your 
carb intakes the better.  Always.
