Fire up the barby, put some large nuts and nolts (or stones) in the tank
Fill the tank with water almost full, remove the sending unit, simmer 
for an hour or til you see all the floaties come to the top.
Dump out most of the water, shake up the nuts or stomes to loosen any 
stuborn stuff, simmer it again.
Metal objects can be retrieved with a magnet, stones depend on a really 
good shaking to get them out.
If you want a caustic soda boil kob, throw in a little Draino and boil it.
