Taper bearings are an after market item and last no longer or better than
the ball bearings.  ALL Sprite/Midgets hubs, disc or drum, use the same
bearings and they were originally fitted with the ball bearing type.
They'll work just fine.  Suggest that you leave out the spacer if it's in
there and adjust them in the conventional way.

There is also a thrust side to all bearings and those sides should be facing
each other.
