Devil's advocate here, reporting for duty ;-)
Just because the factory was willing to sell them without a heater to areas
that had no need of a heater does not mean that the engine is not better off
having the heater. The factory also sold many Spridgets without an oil
cooler, but THAT doesn't mean that you shouldn't install an oil cooler. In
both cases, any "hotting up" you do to the engine tends to put you beyond
the meager cooling capabilities of the stock cooling system and it can
certainly help to have a little more cooling capacity.
