For the hood, I'd start with your second clue. See if you can loosen the
three bolts on the hood latch and slide it over so the hood closes more
centrally. If it doesn't, you may need to ovalize these holes. There's
lots of material here for this. You'll need to be careful, as the latch
is only on one side of the big hole and so tends to push the hood over
anyway.

My thanks for the recent help.

I am on a little roll here with the 74 Midget and as many things as I
get
done new and old quandaries submerge.


And then theres the hood.

The hood /bonnet has never set true. The rear up against the front
window
sits pretty evenly. But at the front it just barely rubs one side more
than
the other widening side.

To the point where it is rubbing the one side down t o the metal. (!)
I have adjusted the hinge screws on the back wall of the engine
compartment
to no avail.
This so far has seemed to be my only solution.

Two clues.
I notice when closing the rear of the hood sits up a little high. With
some
pressure it will go downso I am assuming this is just a result of a
much-needed lubrication to the hinges.

But when the hood is being closed and the middle spring is entering the
locking hole on the front of the car..it almost looks like the locking
mechanism in the hole pushes the hood in the direction of the offset.

So . Any suggestions how to straighten a crooked hood?

It doesnt appear to be the result of any wrecks or chassis warp.
