In my hometown, Waco, TX, its was WACO 1240...supposedly the only  radio 
station in the US with a call sign that spelled the name of the town it  was 
in.  
It was also the call sign for the FM sister station, but in the  early 80's 
some idiot manager changed it to KTsomething to "modernize" the  sound.
