Steve,

I's not so much how soon the lever moves it's more how far it moves.   
Even with air in the system it will usually move as soon as you push  
the clutch pedal in.  The distance it moves will vary from car to  
car, but you need enough movement to completely disengage the clutch.

One more question - will it pump up to disengage?  That is, if you  
pump it a few times does the clutch get better?

I'd bleed the clutch again, just to be sure.
