They're not stainless, I can guarantee you that!!  I have them on my
car.  When I got them they looked like black anodized but after 6 months
in my driveway, they now look all rusty....
And as far as huge diameter, you are right,  But that means they have
comparatively larger "notches" for the mounting bolts,  which (may)
even increase the "stress riser" breakage problem...
And, I've been advised to grease the @#$% out of them every time
I drive the car...
I doubt I would buy them again.
