Fitting the hardtop

I've got the hardtop restored to the point of trying to fit it on for the
first time, and I don't think it is going to be easy.  Everything appears
to line up correctly, but I can't compress the rubber seal enough to fit
the back pins into the trunk hinges.  I don't want to apply too much
pressure.  Any suggestions?
