Hi Listers,
Looks like I found my idling problem on the 465 Holley. My secondary was
slightly open. Turns out there is just enough slack in them that I could see
light through them when the carb was off the car. I had to bend the
connecting rod back in order to put enough pressure on the secondary to
close it off. At least now I can get the idle below 1000rpm. Anyone know
why there is slack in my new Holley secondary shaft? Seems like the vacuum
actuator rod isn't long enough to push the secondary closed all the way.
Right now everything seems to be working properly; although, I haven't
tried the original air cleaner yet. Will need to do a good tune-up on the
car and then I will see if my original air cleaner will go back on without
killing the engine. Need to call Rick and order that K & N filter.

Ended up having to helicoil the intake manifold. Went ahead and drilled
out all four stud holes and mounted helicoils in all four. Put in four new
studs and I can now torque the carb down with no problems. I will admit,
wasn't sure if I had enough room for the drilling. Concerned about the wall
thickness--guess only time will tell. Will keep a close eye on them.

If you remember the front gasket on the intake manifold was leaking oil
around the distributor. I pulled the manifold and put in a new set of
gaskets. This time I let the silicone set up 24 hours before reinstalling.
Well, this time the rear gasket moved. Third time is the charm. Of course I
went to FELPRO gaskets from Mr. Gasket. Both sets of Mr Gasket gaskets
pushed out when torqueing the manifold down. The Felpro seem to fit better
and they lock into each other better. So far everything still holding. Will
keep you informed on the tune-up and air filter. Thanks to all that have
helped with their input. Couldn't have done it without you.
