Alex,
Steve had the piece I could not come up with.

OK Steve I get to "correct you" 'cause you forgot to add the extra chamber
volume to the original swept volume as the 594 original CC volume is right
until you add the 10 cc to the chamber volume 54 becomes 64(snide jab ;>)).
This yields 604 cc volume (594-54 = 540cc, 540cc + 64cc = 604cc) which gives
604/64 for a compression ratio of 9.4375:1.

Is this the kind of calc error that causes shuttles to have unexpected
terminations of the flight??

AHAA!!!

Any other of lifes problems to solve.

Best Regards,
Tim Ronak

PS: Steve I won't be checking email for about 8 days so you can get me back
after next Thursday.

                Assuming your numbers are accurate:

                54 cc. x 11 = 594 original volume
                594 / 64 = 9.28:1

Compression Ratio = Final Volume / Swept Volume

I've assumed that the deck height and gasket thickness were
contained in your
"chamber" volume, but they usually are not, and need to be
known for an exactly
correct answer, but this one is close enough for 'Government
Work"
