Ray, I don't know if anyone ever got back to you or not; nor do I
know who/where Carribou is. Sorry. I like the look of canvas myself, but
when I talked to Martha Wheat (Christiansen?) she told me that a canvas top
will not fit under the metal doors on a MK I. Therefore, I've been living
with the worn but serviceable vinyl top on the car (didn't leak during the
100-mile-plus run in _heavy_ rain coming back from the Pennsylvania BASH).
Anyway, I saw something interesting in the latest Classic &
Sportscar. In the section covering the staff's own cars, there was a picture
of an old Lotus Elan with the top up. In the center of the top, behind the
header, was a clear vinyl 'panel' like a sunroof, but I didn't see any
evidence of a zipper or anything. Cool! Small convertibles can be a bit
claustrophobic with the top up, and an additional bit of light wouldn't hurt
(unless one lives in CA, AZ, NM or FL, I guess). A top maker that did custom
work, I'd guess, could incorporate a panel like that readily.
Also, I've mentioned it before, I've seen _one_ Tiger with a top
that had triple rear windows a la early Alpine. My "dream top" would have
those three windows, maybe the "moonroof" like on that Elan, in red vinyl --
or red canvas if Martha happened to be wrong.
Eh, I currently put up my top infrequently, so I can afford to wait.
