One thing to keep in mind, carpenter's wood glue IS water soluble.
Your car can see high humidity, wood epoxies are far superior.
Or just ask for an exterior glue and follow the instructions.

If you are going to use real wood, good old carpenter's glue works fine.  
There used to be a good discussion of this on Mark Olson's web site if that
