I have original LAT 70 wheels. I have not ever experienced what you are.
Of course, the shop that balanced mine used stick on weights from the get
go.
They also left the mounting screw of one of my spinners loose.  I lost it at
60 mph.  Original size spinners appear to be made of unobtanium.

Personally, I would not want to drive very far or very fast on 12 year old
rubber.
