Hi Bill, and everyone else,

Over the past couple of years it has been shown that the capacitor fix
illustrated in that article may become intermittent after some period of
time and then the tach operation will once again be affected. Tom Hall,
Gary Winblad, myself and a few others have been working to provide a
circuit board that installs inside the tach, and allows for voltage
triggering (required for MSD or Jacobs compatability) as well as current
triggering, and it replaces all the flaky 40 year old technology that
normally sits between the meter movement and the ignition system. There
are several dozen of these boards now installed on Tiger tachs (and a
few MGs as well) with generally good results. I can't give an
unqualified thumbs-up because there have been some issues with certain
installations - all of them Pertronix ignitors or coils. I need to get
my hands on a Pertronix setup and mess around with it to understand what
it is they're doing that is so hostile to the tach sensor circuits.

If you have any questions feel free to ask questions to me directly or
on the list. My tach development is chronicled on my website:

As it happens, I've had exactly the same problem when I installed a
Lumenition electronic ignition system to my car. For reasons that are
unbeknown to me (maybe someone on the list can explain eh situation
better that I), installing a contactless electronic ignition system
seems to really screw up the behaviour of ones Tach.

What I can tell you is that I came across a fantastic article on the
Sunbeam Tiger Owners assoc. website that explains exactly how to resolve
the problem. It's copyright protected so that you can't actually save a
copy to your HD but you can print a copy off.

Go have a look at it here:

I assure you that it will help.

| I installed Pertronix Coil this weekend and it doesn't seem
|to like my stock Tach or is it the Tach doesn't like the coil.
|Anyway I figured I match the Ignitor installed last summer but
|now the Tach goes crazy at times.
| It idles fine and generally reads correctly at lower speeds.
|It also appears to function correctly through the gear shifts
|but often at around 60 or faster it tends(Tach) to bounce
|around. Anyone have any ideas?
