There is a K&N close (or exact?) replacement element for the Tiger air
cleaner. I don't know the part number - probably a search on
TigersUnited.com will give that answer. Probably the reason a lot of the
OEM air cleaners got tossed over the years is because the airflow
capability is dismal, especially for an uprated engine. There are a
couple of 'rules of thumb' for air filter sizing, and most of them say
to calculate the effective area by taking the filter circumference,
multiplied by the effective height, where the effective height is taken
by subtracting some allowance for the filter top and bottom, from the
actual element height. If you apply that to the Tiger's air filter
element, then you end up with pretty much zero effective area. Obviously
the situation is not completely unworkable, because Tigers with stock
air cleaner setups go pretty decently, but it becomes a bigger problem
as you increase the performance potential in other parts of the engine.
