My first job out of high school (and probably the coolest job I'll ever
have) was at a fairly well known old school performance shop in Atlanta.
The boss there, whom I regard as nothing short of an automotive performance
prodigy, felt pretty strongly about headers on street cars. With lots of
engine dyno time to back it up, he felt headers and all of the associated
problems on street cars (blown gaskets, rusting through, etc) just weren't
worth the small horsepower increase they usually show on street motors. Who
knows, with the tiny Tiger exhaust, the crazy bends the exhaust has to make,
and the "modifications" necessary to get 'em to fit, if they really make a
difference at all? Got me. Has anyone tried to ExtrudeHone good SB Ford
exhaust manifolds and see what kind of power they make? May work, who knows?
Will 289 HiPo exhaust manifolds fit?

All of that being said, the main reason not to use headers would seem to be
"practicality." And while Tigers are cool, fast, historic, handsome, rare,
inspiring and fun, they are probably not generally known as practical. So
in the end, I guess, as usual it's all up to the whim of the individual
owner (isn't it always)?
