I can't help you with the water pump info, but if he is having
chronic overheating it could be something other than the water pump. I
hope he has checked the whole system before deciding that the water pump is
the problem.

One problem with higher flow pumps is they consume more HP. The
other problem is the higher and faster the flow through the block the less
time the coolant has to absorb heat, so you could have a worse overheating
problem.

First rule of Overheating; If it is not puking, it not overheating.

Second rule; Never assume your temp gauge is correct, use other measurements
to determine actual temperature.

Make sure the radiator and heater core are clear; flush them or have
them cleaned out.

Make sure the thermostat is good and the right temperature.

Make sure all the hoses are new or in good shape

Make sure there is plenty of air flow through the radiator

Many chronic overheating problems are due to an engine block that
was bored out too much and the cylinder walls are too thin.

Good luck to your buddy.

Ron Fraser

Hey,
My buddy is considering an Edelbrock water pump to help with his
chronic overheating. He found it in the Summit catalogue @ about $165, but
he also found a Milodon (sp. -1?) for about $100. The Edelbrock claims
twice stock water flow, but the Milodon claims thrice & for cheaper. Does
anyone have any experience with the Milodon or (too much to hope for) any
comparative knowledge of the two? Thanks!
                                                  Chris Hill
