I met to say "the car had stock gears" (2.88).

I had a similar vibration problem with my Mark I, ended up being a bad pilot
bearing. The damage to the bearing likely occurred when the PO installed the
rebuilt toploader, as I've heard that if you are a bit out of line initially it
can screw up the bearing. Don't know if that is your issue, but thought I'd
mention it. The car had stick gears... would vibrate badly at about 70 and then
smooth out above 75 or 80. Sure sounds like your symptoms anyway.

Owain,

Try to determine where the vibration is originating, is it in the engine or
the drive train. If you rev the eng. up to the vibration point out of gear
and don't get the vibration you can assume that it is in the driveline.
Drive the car up past the vibration point then take the car out of gear let
the eng. go to idle, if you get the vibration then it is probably in the
drive train. The first place to look are the u-joints, if they are sound
check if there are any driveshaft balance weights that have been thrown off,
then the last thing is to balance the driveshaft, but I think you will find
something before you get to that point.
I doubt very much that there is anything wrong inside the trany.

Good luck

Subject: [Tigers] vibrating shifter

i've noticed that the high rpm rattle from my shifter is getting
worse. its particularly irksome now that my front end is in better
shape and i can actually drive fast. at 4000 rpm the rattle
approaches a deafening level so i think its high time i deal with the
issue. luckily there is a dead spot where the resonance seems to calm
down at 81-82mph but i can't drive everywhere at 81mph :)

given that the vibration is damped if i hold tight or pull up on the
shifter i'm thinking i just need to rebuild the shift linkage.

any tips on how to do this or a place that sells new parts, kits? i
had a look at toploaderheaven but i'm not sure the best route to take.

as always any experience or opinions most welcome....
