Hello all,
First off Happy New Year to everyone in the
Sunbeam community. Long time lurker, first time
seeking help from the list. I've always managed to find
what I've needed thru Tigers United,(thanks Steve) or the Cat
shop manuals, or from folks that I've met at various shows...
but I'm a little stumped on this one.
so...just checked the fluid in the clutch master and it was empty!!
Well I found it on the floor soaked up in the insulation under the
carpet.
Bought the rebuild kit from Rick @ SS, got it apart, all cleaned up,
ready to
install, when I took a look at the Rootes Manual, just for self
insurance
and it shows a part #3, "packing piece". Well... I didn't take that
off the car
when dismantilling the master unit.. I went back to my "box of spare
parts",
and low and behold, there is a piece that matched item #3...
So my question is, (finally)) if my clutch worked (prior to leaking)
just fine
without this in place, do I need to install it?? It almost seems that
it will take
up some of the travel of the clutch pedal (the throw)??
Also, in the rebuild kit, there is a new rubber boot, what is the
"right" way
to get the old one off, when the washer on the plunger is "fixed"??
BTW.. I cut it, put the new piece on, then welded the washer, grinded
it,
now its just like new....
Mike R.
