I agree with Chris and Andy

especially if you live in a region with any topography, hills and mountains
terrain or will be towing over that type of terrain....even a car as light as
a Tiger on a lightweight trailer, IMO will work a V6 to death....again,
IMO....of course I tow with a duramax chevy....and I've also had a ford
powerstroke....both with nearly 550 ft lbs of torque....factory...so I'm
clearly biased, but its better to have too much than too little...and uphill
battles with a loaded trailer will be a royal pain....and down hills without
enough braking too. Most of the newer diesels have a trailer mode now that
will keep the transmission shifting up a bit higher if necessary on accel, and
let the motor do the braking on the downhills and save the heat on pads and
rotors....which is nice if you have ever come down pikes peak with someone
riding the brakes...someone I was with had to nosedive into the hill side to
get it stopped with the brake fluid started to turn to vapor..... Now if
budget wont allow for the diesel, at least go V8 or V10....fuel economy will
be rough, which is another good reason for the diesel of course...my duramax
gets about 18 mpg on the highway...where my dad's V10 Triton gets about 8 or
10 I think...so you need to consider that as well...but the gas motor will
have its benefits....less lag since its naturally aspirated...etc...diesels
are overly strong, but not too incredibly fast in stock trim.....they just
pull hard, and they are a sweet ride.

I had a straight 6 in a newer jeep cherokee for a few years that I tried to
tow a pair of jetski's to the lake with.....even that sucked....the
transmission worked itself to death just to make it up and down the hills on
the highway at speed......and one more thing...do you really want your tow
vehicle to have less cylinders than the vehicle on the trailer?

just my two cents...good luck!
