I've tried the I, II & III.

The biggest surprise I found was that each uses a coil with different 
resistance for each.

You can quickly fry the unit if you use  the wrong combination (such as the 
Pertronix I Ignitor unit with the Pertronix III coil).

Make sure you have correct spark plug wires.

I've had the best luck with the III which has been bullet proof so far. It 
has delivered us a good solid spark out to 8K and that's as far as we've 
dared test it..
