My S2 Scottish friend- Hughie- a long wall expert for Joy has a SS dash in his
S2- no he isnt attempting orginal as he has to many of my S5 parts but the dash
is nice enough to replace a Tiger dash if they are the same and after owning 7
Tigers- all have had the pebble grain plastic piece under the steering wheel
shaft outer cover. I think somone was creative and made a dress up piece- I
would like a duplicate to my dash- a THOUGHT perhaps.

Allan, I still have the original dash in my car, and am starting to re-veneer
it this week myself. I can assure you it is not straight grained by any stretch
of the imagination. As faded and cracked as it is, there are clearly waves and
swirls, albeit faint, in the original veneer.

Regarding the piece below the steering column, on my car that is a black
plastic piece of material that covers the gap below the column. It has a very
fine, random tight nit pinpoint surface pattern.

Are you sure your current dash is original equipment?

A reminder to all as well that Sunbeam Specialties also sells show quality
replacement dashes at prices competitive with what has been mentioned here (no
affiliation).

The mystery deepens :)

I stopped by the re-finisher to see the walnut veneer that he had
selected to match
what is on the Tiger's dash, from his old stash.

It isn't burled :)

I've not looked closely at many stock Tiger dash's but mine is about 99%
burl free.

He further stated that the grain should be vertical to match, not left
to right.

He mentioned the color shade but I have forgotten the name of it. In his
view it was a relatively
darkish shade of brown.

Then another question arose.

The small piece that joins the dash beneath the steering column - is it
supposed to match the veneer?

Rgds,

Allan Ballard
