Hi Ken,

The manual does describe a pressure test which might be a reasonable thing
to do given your description. This can be done with the OD in the car, you
just have to raise the car enough to get under it to install a pressure
gauge on the test port (bottom of OD hydraulic section).

You need a pressure gauge but these are relatively easy to make. I made up
one a few years ago, info for that is at
<http://www.gumbi.com/peterz/tr6/o-d/o-d_gauge.html>. I think I noticed
someone selling them on ebay recently as well so you might search there.

The pressure test should tell you if the internals are going. The OD does
require a high pressure to engage. When you switch off, the pressure drop
should be fast. If it's not, something is preventing that pressure from
dropping.
