Darryl---Some of the vendors suggest either running these water pumps
dry, as in up against a motorized wire buffer, OR installing them with
no water in the cooling system during startup.  Their idea here is to
seat the carbon bushing thru a short, dry run.  (One would think the
mfgr. would do this, knowing this is sometimes necessary to avoid a
leak.)

It's possible that the leak will stop on its own if you can bear coolant
flying all over during the process. Otherwise, remove the pump and spin
it dry for a few minutes as they recommend.
