If the original lifters are gone, or you cannot remember which
lifter goes with which lobe, the old cam is only good for a regrind
core. You will not be able to reinstall it and have it survive more
than a few miles.
The lobes and lifters wear mate in a very few miles and
cannot be interchanged without experiencing premature lobe failure.
Some people have reported getting away with it, but these are the
same people that win the lottery; very lucky and very few. I don't
suggest you even consider it.
Get a new cam and new lifters, or have your old cam reground.

I am thinking about putting my old stock cam (doing some
experimenting). This cam has about 15k miles on it, and unfortunately I
think that the matching lifters are lost. Looking at BPNW I see both
regular lifters and hardened ones - what is the best choice?
