James---If you decide on the K&N's, all cleaning recommendations will be
on the box.
Briefly, they want you to use their own oil and cleaner, and sell this
as a kit. (Around $10 the last time I bought one) One cleaning and
oiling is good for about 50,000 miles, depending on ambient air, and how
long it takes to put on this many miles.
I've had my large cone K&N since 1985, and cleaned it three times. In
between cleaning, I remove it and tap it on the ground to remove the
large particles. Then I stick in a (compressed) air hose and blow back
to the outside. Don't know how much this helps, but I feel better doing
it.

 ....thanks for the K&N advice.
i forgot to mention, even though the carbs and engine are stock... I
actually would perfer not to use the original air filter housing. so i
will take a look at the big three and see what i need.

i guess i need to get special oil for the filters

as well. and how often do they need replacing? or are they cleanable
like my current foam/sponge setup?
thanks!

Hello.
I have been away from the list for a while, and I am sure this topic has
been discussed
in varying degrees of nausea!
What air filter is the best for a 1976 stock TR6? And where should (can)
I purchase the filter?
K&N I have heard mentioned in the past. I also heard something about
some of
them needed
to be fitted by dented the inside wheel well. (not an option for me!)
Currently I am using the black foam type that have the metal shape
retainers
on the outside.
They use regular motor oil. They are alright, but need replacing.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the repeat topic, but I am unable to locate the past threads.
