        John:

The only I worried about with recalibrating the speedo is that
the odometer would still be off by 15%. I don't know that this would be
the case, but the odometer is gear driven and requires new gears to be
"calibrated". The speedo part of the instrument can be calibrated by
adjusting some springs that load the drag cup. Would a speedo service be
able to regear the odometer?
Because of this concern, I went with finding a way to locate the
correct pinion gear, but I never verified my concern about the odometer.
Have you tried Rimmer Brothers in England? They have a web page,
and shipping for something so small would be very modest. I would try
them before giving up and opting for recalibration or locating another
speedo. By the way, there are lots of speedos on eBay, and you can get
them from places like British Auto Works for cheap, so it is not an
expensive option, but I also like the idea of keeping the original
speedo. I am anal about this sort of thing though...

I recently got hold of a gearbox with J-Type OD, which appears to be out
of 73-74 TR6. I had this in my car but I have to take it out again to
rebuild the gearbox, but I also noticed that the speedometer would read
16% higher than actual speed. The OD has an 8-tooth internal
speedometer gear. I am in need of a 7-tooth internal speedometer gear
to match the speedometer for my 76, but this item is no longer stocked
by the big three. If anyone out there happens to have one they are
willing to part with, please contact me off list, otherwise I will
probably have to get hold of an older speedometer. Thanks.
