As Chuck would say, my 2.68745c worth:

I am at a point on my SV restoration where I need to decide where to put the
mirrors.  The lines of the Alpine fenders are so darned nice that I hate to
screw them up with mirrors (my opinion guys!), and will most likely put them
back by the door and windshield frame where they will aesthetically become 
part
of that, rather than part of the front fender.

Of course, the only thing I ever liked on the front fender of a British 
sports
car was Emma Peel!  Grrrrrrr!, leather jump suits!
