Charlie,

I own a 1986 Vette and run it in BSP in SCCA (2E in NCCC). I used to
subscribe to the belief that if SCCA would build a class for Corvettes
that hordes would come out to play. I say I "used" to believe that, but
not anymore.

If Corvette drivers want to compete against Corvettes only, they just
have to enter NCCC (National Counsel of Corvette Clubs) events in their
area. In the process they will get 3-4 times as many runs, not have to
work the course and have a blast.

Granted, the competitive level isn't on a par with SCCA but as a fellow
Corvette racer (in SCCA) has mentioned "We are racers who happen to drive
Corvettes. NCCC drivers tend to be Corvette owners who happen to race."

I don't think SCCA should be in the business of supporting a single
marque class. SCCA will always run the risk of alienating strong
proponents of the "I" class masses in the process. You will find lots of
folks in the marque clubs who love to bash SCCA for taking this stance.
However, the very fact that EVERY marque club has people complaining
about SCCA is the strongest argument that, in fact, the SCCA IS doing
their job.
