I ship and receive tires on a regular basis and I have always used UPS
ground. Yes, they do have a $5.00 surcharge on all unpackaged items. we
tape two tires together whenever we can to save some. If you try to tape
all 4 together they will be larger than the UPS oversize package size and
that charge is even higher. Yes, US Mail is cheaper but unreliable and
you pay a lot more if you send them through one of the services which
will track your shipment. UPS provides tracking on all packages as well
as insurance, usually at no extra charge (there are insurance charges if
your package is "over-valued" but I don't know what that means) while
through US Mail if it gets lost ar damaged you are pretty well screwed.
