Atlanta Region's Champion of Champions event was held in conjunction with
the Southeast Divisional event last weekend (November 11-12, 2000).
We chose to use the RTP index because it reflects asphalt performance
better than the PAX factor. The RTP index is based on a whole season's
events NOT just the National Championships.
Anyway, we had a real close competition and for the second time in 3
years the Champion of Champions hails from somewhere OTHER than the
Atlanta area. How can this happen? A competitor only has to be an Atlanta
Region member and secondary memberships count.
Robert Carpenter, who lives in the Knoxville, Tennesee area, drove his
ancient ES Honda CRX SI to the win over previous champion, Heath McMillan
(also in a Honda CRX running in CSP)and Solo II Co-chair, Ben Thatcher
(driving a BSP Corvette). Carpenter qualified for the championship the
hard way by taking his class championship in the very tough PAXed PRO
class.
