I'm pushing 40,000 since I replaced rings, chain, and rod bearings on my 69
2000 daily driver. As posted yesterday, it left me along the road for the
first time yesterday when the fuel pump went south. But guess what? Actually
the postive lead just came out of the solderless connector! I could have
gotten it going if things where truly desperate! I replaced the connector,
used heat shrink and electrician's tape to secure the splice. A couple of
wire ties now hold the lead to the frame.
The installation instructions for the new pump ( yes I read them, don't tell
anyone ) say the pump should be placed at the rear of the vehical, no more
than 12 inches above the bottom of the tank and at 45 degree angle. Also
recomended are a filter between the tank and the pump and a oil pressure
switch to kill the pump in case of an accident.
My biggest probelm with the pump is, man is it loud! I can hear it when I'm
just idling and I know my U-20 is louder than most. Got think of a way of
isolating it better.
