  I think I remember seeing what you are talking about.  Kind of a clear
contact paper that provided some protection from stone chips but easily
peeled off.  Now if I could only remember where I saw it?
  I run a hard top on my 1600 mainly because I still haven't had my soft top
mounted yet.  Before I set the hard top on, I rub on a heavy coat of wax to
help protect the paint.  And I never leave it on long.  I also replaced all
the weather stripping when I first got the top.  Along the bottom edge where
it meets the body, I used a very heavy profile to keep the top up off the
body.
