Thanks to all who sent answers about this thing being the fan resistor......it makes all kind of sense. These wires weren't hooked to anything, and I had only one fan speed to push air through my leaking heater core. Once I get it all hooked up and working again; (the resistor does resist), I'll be able to use my heater just in time for the unbearably cold summers in Southern California.
