Roman, your experience is one of the things I like best about Roadsters.
It's personal. It represents an accomplishment that you just can't get
from buying a new car, or a previously restored car. As I look over some
of the accomplishments I have made in my life (which includes 2 masters
degrees, not bragging, just putting in context), one of the main things
that sticks out in my mind as a "Yes, I can do it!" was the rebuilding of
my '67 2000. I learned so much on that car, but not just about cars,
more about me, about patience, perseverance, respect for the
accomplishments of others, teamwork, honesty. I work with teenagers in a
juvenile detention facility as a therapist. I talk with them about
building their self-esteem, confidence, respect, honesty... something
that they often times have not had modeled for them, let alone
experienced themselves. I try to help them see their strengths, or at
least reframe what skills they have into something they can accomplish
that is legal. I often use my experience with my Roadster over the
years... the successes, and the temporary set backs (because they are not
failures, they are learning experiences) as a way of illustrating how
that can work. For me, my Roadster is not just a car; it's a teacher, a
friend, a challenge, and I never want to stop learning from it.
