Milton,
Installing a modern efi engine is never as simple as reading the pin-out
diagram and feeding power to the computer, and away you go. I wouldn't
even contemplate attempting to use a factory computer, they were never
designed for retro fitment. Unsure on US computers, but domestic jap
computers have speedlimiters, and thus require electronic sender from
the gearbox (read cant drive roadster speedo without $$ modification).
Many of the required sensors (for a factory ecu) are difficult to retro
fit such as airflow meters etc, as they are calibrated to flow through
factory airbox etc.

If using an aftermarket computer (haltech, wolf3d etc) the only thing
you need to connect to your original loom is the alternator, usually
just need to get the plig changed. Might sound expensive at first, but
worth every cent.

The gearboxes from a series 3 bluebird or Pintara (unsure of US name or
availability) are much shorter than the SR gearboxes, and fitment only
requires changing of the bellhousing for fitment to the sr-20, theses
boxes use a shifter setup similar to Lseries engines and use a solid
shifter stick which can be cut/welded/tapped into any size or shape you
like.

Regards,
James
