Be warned that not all jack stands should be considered safe even if you're
using them within their load capacity. My case in point, I was using jack
stands to support my 2000 while installing and reconnecting the clutch slave
cylinder, which takes a considerable amount of pulling/pushing on the car.
When
I finished, I crawled out and leaned on the car ever so slightly. Down came
the car to the ground. The tooth had not fully engaged the cogs on the
jackstand's bar and now I consider that jackstand defective and I'll not use it
again. I just thank my lucky stars that I was out from under the car when it
collapsed. I still haven't figured out why it didn't come down
while I was pulling/pushing on it while I was under it, yet it fell by leaning
on it just a little. I'd used this bad stand for years prior with no problems.
Moral of the story: Check your stands prior to each use.

You have a 6,000 lb jack, so it should lift the front end or rear end
without problems. I use a similar jack on our 3/4 ton Ford diesel without
problems. The biggest problem I have is raising the truck high enough at
times. I have been known to put a block between the jack and the truck
frame to lift it a bit higher. Make sure your jack stands are in good
condition, and on solid ground and you should be fine.

Hello All,
Gots a question about jacking up a heavy car. We just bought a 73
3/4 ton pickup and I want to check out the brakes. Now the dang thing
weighs 6300 pounds! We have a 3 ton floor jack and jack stands, can we use
these safely on this big of a car?
        Thanks,
                Daniel Neuman
