Ran this rumor to ground with Heritage and BL once before about ten years ago.
NO cars were brought to the US EXCEPT a five used for factory race
preparation, one used as a demo show model at a trade show and one used as a
training aid at port of entry. Have the VIN's somewheres.
Kastner did bring in some various model white metal cars...bare for
competition ( I have pictures of these in his shop)...as did Larry Reed
(Inglewood) in TR6's. BUT metallic was NEVER a factory color on 3'4, 4's or
6's although there were experimental color interior combinations made in each
series. Have owned an emerald green with gray interior TR6 briefly, as well as
a white with red interior (Both were 1970's)...both had an X in Vin number and
neither combination was available in the literature from the factory. But
metallic??...never....early metallics were lacquers...all Triumphs used
enamels....so suspect a repaint. But don't let that deter you from a good car
as long as you have a good feel for what is under the paint. Hope that is of
some help or general interest.
