I inadvertently created this problem for myself when I reset the jet needles
in the carb pistons (one of the needles had come loose and I was re-securing
both of them).

Anyway, in moving the needles maybe 0.25mm up into the pistons I had made
the carbs run rich (I wondered why it fired so quickly with little choke).
After
the engine was hot and I sat at a red light the idle gradually dropped off ...
I didn't
let it die, but when I got home I let the idle fall until the car died.

Maybe something is causing an excessively rich mixture--like fuel boiling
in the carbs (suggested by Mike Salter)--or some sort of flooding or fuel
leak.

When the HD diaphragms break they can flood the carb.

hot I mean like after driving for half an hour in 90 degree temps (I live in
south Florida). It then becomes unable to
sustain an idle. It just idles rougher and slower until it dies. I suspect an
ignition problem although all components
were replaced within the last 18 months. Any suggestions as to likely culprits?
