I was having problems with my 67 BJ8 popping out of second gear going
downhill.....
Soo...I had my mechanic look into it. He said the syncro ring was worn and
he replaced the first gear with one from Moss who got it from Dennis Welch.
Some pin was missing from an older trans overhaul 5 yrs ago otherwise the
gears didn't look too bad.
Good news is that it no longer pops out of second.
BAD news is that one in five shifts out of first I can barely move the lever
from first to second, especially if I'm going over 15mph. I mean it is
REALLY hard to pull it out of first. Same thing happens in the garage with
the engine off. Sometimes I can't get it out of first without double
clutching. Most of the time it shifts but like it has gravel in it. Second
to third, third to 4th and overdrive are smooth. Clutch is fine.
Mechanic says to drive it and it will break in.
Suggestions????
