are going to use adhesive on anything, you can't have the surface too clean if
you want things to stick for a while.  Although I glue the gasket to the valve
cover and not the head, I degrease the (valve cover) gasket surface thoroughly
with 3M adhesive remover before attaching the gasket.  For the head surface, I
prefer to have it wiped clean but not degreased so that the gasket will seal
but not stick permanently.

  It is also a good idea to clean the head surface real well prior.  I use
rubbing alcohol and let it dry good then wipe the surface off with an old
t-shirt.  Probably overkill, but seems to work in helping the silicon seal.
