Subject: How to fit transmission tunnel extension?

I am recarpeting my 59 BN6. Unfortunately, the restoration guide will not be
here until tomorrow. I have looked at Rich Chryslers excellent notes on
Jim's website. I am using the Moss Motors kit. Rich talks about the
"Carpet to Carpet" seal. However, I think I have screwed up.

This is what I have done. The carpet in the vertical footwell runs to the
edge of the firewall (per Rich). I wrapped the carpet around the edge of
the transmission tunnel extension (it seems this is right for the Carpet to
Carpet Seal Rich describes.

It appears I have to fold out the metal edges of the transmission tunnel to
make it fit above the carpet on the edge of the firewall (which I have
done). You then have a carpeted raised area running up and down the side of
the firewall from the transmission tunnel. This doesn't seem to be correct
(the metal extension fit the firewall pretty good before I bent it out for
clearance). A cross section looking down the vertical footwell would be:

       cpf
    CCCcpf
    CECcpf
    CECcpf
    CEC
    CE
    CE

Where anything in caps is on the extension (E), anything in lower case is on
the firewall (f), C is carpet, P and is pad.

Another way to do it would be something like where the extension and the
firewall metal would touch.

    cpf
    cpf
    cpf
     cf
     cf
     cf
    CEF
    CEF
    CEF
    CE
    CE

But this would require cutting back the pad and would be hard to align the
carpeting on a cut.

What am I supposed to do?
