One tip I've used in the past with various friends: Once you've gotten to
that high school/church/ball park parking lot, and they're sitting behind the
wheel, have them try to start the car in motion WITHOUT using the accelerator.
The first thing to learn is where the clutch begins to engage. With a little
bit
of care they should actually be able to put the car into motion, and then
disengage the clutch again to keep from killing the engine. Once they've gotten
a
feel for clutching, it's dead easy to add the throttle action to actually
drive the car.
On the other hand, trying from the very start to master two different
movements with two different feet at the same time can be frustrating and
painful.
See if this tip helps. -- And there's no reason why the Healey can't be used
for learning.
Cheers
Gary
