dave, i have had both problems you describe.  before you tear into the servo
check to see that your brake pedal travel is correct. apparently my clevis was
screwed too far out on the threads and when the brake fluid would warm up it
would expand the rod back against the pedal stop and lightly apply the brakes.
i would alway tap the brakes to get going.  after two or three teardowns of
servo i finally started checking other things and found the problem.  i have
always had problems with the pressure type brake light sending unit, so i got
an electrical stop light switch and fabricated it so that it made contact as
soon as i touched the brakes.  wired it right into brake light wires and it
works great.. left the old pressure switch there so i would not have to plug
