Larry ... The info. you are getting is not correct ...
When you start your car you should read + it's charging the battery ,
after a short drive your ammeter will read close to zero , if you stop and
start
your engine again , you again will be on the + side for a few miles ... With
the head lights on it should do the same ... GENERATORS will only show on the
charge side + above 1200 RPM , below that RPM it will show a discharge and
the
ignition light could come on ... DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN REGULATOR POINTS OR BEND
